Cody Von Ruden is a freelance Costume Designer and Illustrator currently based in the DMV area. His work includes but is not limited to Theatre, Opera, and Dance. 

 

Cody has always had a love for story, whether that be books, movies, or live theatre, he loves to see and hear how other people experience the world. As a queer artist Cody makes it a part of his personal mission to find a way for everyone to see themselves in the stories he tells. 

He has worked in multiple theatrical venues in different capacities, including Costume Designer, Costume Design Assistant, Wardrobe, Stitcher, and even Audience Services Manager. These credits include Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Cumberland County Playhouse, Victory Gardens Theatre, Wolf Trap Opera, and Maine State Music Theatre. 

Cody received an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Maryland - College Park, under the mentorship of Costume Designer Helen Q. Huang. He received a BA in Theatre Design from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, under the mentorship of Costume Designer Kaoime Malloy.

Recent designs include Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Grease, and Florencia En El Amazonas. Upcoming: The Figs (Rorschach Theatre), Bright Star (Catholic University), West Side Story (Maine State Music Theatre)
